7 Times Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Misses The Mark
1. The Multiverse Is Surprisingly Small
And this is the big one - or not, as it appears.
For a film titled Multiverse of Madness, you'd expect a lot of the titular Multiverse.
Apart from the scene in the trailer where Strange and Chavez fall through different universes, besides our main 616 dimension, the film only explores two other universes. And when reflecting on these two universes, the majority of time is spent in the 838 universe, and very little in the 'Sinister Strange' universe.
This is baffling. Doctor Strange 2 has always been marketed as a huge ride into the multiverse, with many thinking it as an event on an Avengers level. But realistically, this ride is very short. Maybe this is a problem with audience expectations and over hyping, but the missed opportunity cannot be overlooked.
Multiverse of Madness is rumoured to have 40 minutes of content cut, but it is not likely we are missing a load more multiverse hopping. Exploration of an idea with infinite scope is always going to be tricky, but sadly the core of this film misses the mark.
As stated in the intro, this film is good and definitely so enjoyable, just a little rough around the edges.
