Harley Quinns presence will open up a side of the Joker which Ledger never got to explore: that of the crazed lover whose beau is as insane as he is. Of course, whether the Joker actually cares about Harley Quinn at all is highly debatable, and shes often little more than a prop to stroke his own ego with. The control which the Joker holds over her will likely be a key emotional lynchpin of Suicide Squad, and fan sites abound with theories that involve Harley falling for the Joker, assisting him in one of his schemes against the Suicide Squad, and then being betrayed. Theres one theory doing the rounds that the person Letos Joker is preparing to torture at the end of the teaser trailer is in fact Harley Quinn, which certainly fits their abusive relationship. Of course, the whole romance thing could all be intensely embarrassing, but its a completely new conceit for the Batman movie universe - this will be Harley Quinns first celluloid outing - and as such it promises to show a different, more controlling and manipulative side of the Joker than during Ledger's tenure.
