3. If the Actor That Was Featured on the Poster Is Barely in the Movie

When you go to watch a movie in theatres, when you put your money down at the box office, youve already made your mind up ahead of time about the film youre choosing to see. Thats the entire purpose of movie marketing. They want you to decide, even though you have no idea what youre in for really, that this movie will be great. One of the ways Hollywood achieves this is by marketing its stars effectively. For example, if youre a huge Samuel L. Jackson fan, and you see Samuel L. Jackson on the poster, your mind is probably already made up right? Itll be at least semi-good, because Jackson is in it and for you, hes a known quantity. But every so often Hollywood produces a god-awful movie that theyve managed to cast a decently sized star in for about 5 minutes worth of screen time and theyll feature said star in pride of place on the movie poster. Then you, as a fan, make your mind up that itll be at least semi-decent, you put your money down, and you half-willingly allow Hollywood to rape you in the eyes. But theres a better way! If youre watching a film thats billing a major star as the centrepiece of the poster, its terrible, and the star you paid for doesnt appear immediately, then youve probably been duped. If thats the case, why not take back control by walking, and possibly demanding a refund on your way out?
