8 Actors Quentin Tarantino Originally Wanted For Iconic Roles

3. Simon Pegg (Lt. Archie Hicox, Inglourious Basterds)

Here's one to me that seems like a happy accident; I like Simon Pegg, but I'm just not convinced he has the gravitas within him to make the role of Lt. Archie Hicox - played so well by Michael Fassbender - his own. Tarantino originally selected him for the role, though Pegg's commitment to Steven Spielberg's Tintin denied the pair the opportunity to work together. What's most peculiar about the casting choice is that, unlike Adam Sandler, Pegg hasn't really proven himself in the dramatic arena, and given that the role of Hicox isn't really a very funny one, who's to say how Pegg would have fared? This is a perfect instance of fate intervening, and I have no doubt that Fassbender was a stronger fit for the part than Pegg.
