8 Actors Quentin Tarantino Originally Wanted For Iconic Roles

1. Matt Dillon (Butch Coolidge, Pulp Fiction)

Matt Dillon A casting choice that is difficult to visualise yet, at the same time, would have been interesting to behold is Matt Dillon being the original choice to play Butch Coolidge in Pulp Fiction, a role that eventually went to Bruce Willis instead. Tarantino had Dillon in mind from the get-go, but after offering it to him, Dillon wanted to sleep on it before accepting, which caused Tarantino to search for an actor more wholly committed to and enthusiastic about the part, in Willis (who nevertheless was originally interested in playing Vincent Vega). There's no doubting that Willis completely nailed the part, and his contributions also gave the film a veritable A-lister, which went over exceedingly well with the studio. Tarantino recalled, "Once I got Bruce Willis, Harvey got his big movie star, and we were all good...Bruce Willis made us legit." Would it have been interesting to see what Dillon could have done? Sure, but the role of a burly, ill-tempered boxer just suits Willis so, so much better. Which of the above casting choices would you liked to have seen the most? Let us know in the comments below.
