8 Actors Who Completely Defy Type-Casting

2. Meryl Streep

If Oscar-winning performance can be considered a type-cast, then I guess she doesn't belong on this list, but for as much politicking as there is within the Academy, you don't get three Oscars if you don't have range. It's become almost comical how good of an actress she is. Imagine how a stereotypical talent agent from the '30s would sell her. "I tell ya, this kid can do anything! You need a prime minister? I got your gal. You need a totalitarian magazine editor? Look no further. How about a character based on a real author who falls in love with her plant-obsessed subject? She can do it all. Accents, singing, heartbreaking decisions between which child of hers will live and which will die. What do you say, Jerry? Come on, Jerry. You can do better than that. Jerry, baby, now we're talkin'... Tell your wife I said hello. See you at Christmas!" I might have gotten a little carried away there for a minute.
