8 Actors Who Turned Down Crazy Money To Appear In Movie Sequels

2. Mel Gibson Turned Down $22 Million To Star In Mad Max 4

The Mad Max franchise has recently found itself back on top again thanks to George Miller's late-stage masterpiece, Mad Max: Fury Road, which saw Tom Hardy taking over the iconic role from Mel Gibson (who made three Max films between 1979 and 1985). Gibson has since been cast out of Hollywood for numerous reasons of the highly troubling variety. As such, it's hard to think back to a time when he was genuinely one of the biggest and most in-demand movie stars on the planet. Back when Gibson was still on top, however, he was being presented with some downright amazing financial opportunities. Back in 1987, for example, the star was offered a crazy $22 million to star in a sequel to Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. At this time, however, Gibson had just filmed the first Lethal Weapon film, and believed his time as Max was over. So he blankly refused. Bet he wishes those kinds of offers were coming in now, though.
