Who They Scared: Liv Tyler

The Strangers is a low-budget home invasion horror flick released in 2008. It's not necessarily the best horror movie of the past couple of decades, but it managed to rake in $82 million on a budget of only $9 million, which says something about the movie's ability to draw an audience.

In the movie, Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman play a couple on a remote getaway, but their little vacation devolves into a nightmare scenario, when three horrifying strangers show up, and decide it would be fun to torture the happy couple. What's interesting about the show of fear on the actors' faces is that it was real.

Tyler was asked about her reactions to various parts of the movie, and whether or not she was actually as terrified as she appeared. In an interview with NewsBlaze, Tyler discussed how she was able to look so frightened:

"Oh yeah. I mean, all the time. Absolutely. That's what is so real about The Strangers. Like, you'd be in bed at night trying to relax, and all of a sudden you hear a noise and you go, 'What was that!' And you wonder, are you brave enough to go check or not. Imagine if you went to look, and there's a person in a mask standing in your living room, with a butcher knife!"

In the Blu-Ray extras, Laura Margolis, the actress who plays the "Pin-Up-Girl" intruder, revealed that she'd been told Tyler wanted her gear to appear genuine. "I got strict instructions not to let Liv see me in my mask before we shot. She didn't want to have to fake it, and so it was my responsibility to really scare her."
