8 Actors Whose Careers Flopped After Leaving The MCU

As Yinsen in the original Iron Man, Shaun Toub gave one of the most overlooked, understated performances in the entire MCU.

Without his aid, Tony Stark wouldn't be the man he is today, and by extension, the MCU wouldn't be the same. By reminding Tony that he didn't have anyone who he truly cared for, Yinsen gave the billionaire a fresh perspective on his life, leading him to care about people, and not money, booze and partying.

Yinsen later appeared in Iron Man 3 for a handful of seconds (a callback to a scene in Iron Man, where he explains that he'd met Tony before), but this aside, Toub's career very much peaked with his role in the MCU's first ever movie.

Immediately after Iron Man, things did look promising. Toub was set to appear in M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender, a blockbuster adaptation of the popular animated series. But we all know how that turned out: the movie was a complete failure in every conceivable way, and since then, the actor has been relegated to bit-parts in small movies, and some TV work.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
