8 Awesome Trailers for 8 Unspeakably Bad Movies

3. The Spirit

At first glance, the cast of The Spirit should already issue some butts in the seats; Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, and Samuel L. Jackson in some meaty roles seems like the fast-track to success. In fact, judging by the stylistic, sexy trailer, it seems probable that we're in for the best film in the vein of Sin City and 300 yet. With visually stunning frames, Frank Miller dialogue, and a more-than-easy-on-the-eyes cast, the trailer promises a noir story worth returning to over and over again. And while it's not our fault we didn't expect the movie to be Gabriel Macht talking to himself for 103 minutes, we were given a taste of it in the trailer. But that's when it works; when it's just a taste. The final product was that unholy conglomeration of "too much" with "inane" when you factor in Jackson's horrendous, hammy delivery in a film where style couldn't knock the picture out of the park on its own.

Cameron Carpenter is an aspiring screenwriter, current film and journalism student, and self-diagnosed cinephile, which only sounds bad in certain circles. Devoted fan of comics, movies, theater, Jesus Christ, Sidney Lumet, and Peter O'Toole, he sometimes spends too much time on his Scribd and comicbookmovie.com, but doesn't think you're one to judge, devoted reader. You can follow him on Twitter to watch him talk to people you didn't know exist. Oh, and Daredevil is quite the big deal around here (my head).
