3. Blofeld - For Your Eyes Only
The constantly developing continuity of the James Bond series is so brilliantly carefree; before Daniel Craig came along the Broccolis refused to look any further forward than the sexy escapade Bond would end up in as the credits rolled. As well see, however, they werent against looking back. Blofeld, the head of evil organisation SPECTRE, appeared throughout Connerys (and Lazenbys) reign, evolving from faceless Number 1 into the most iconic villain in the whole series. Diamonds Are Forever, Connerys last outing, killed him off by smashing his escape submarine into an oil rig, effectively confining him to the annals of cinema history (and parody). That is until he reappeared ten years later in the opening sequence of For Your Eyes Only. In a sequence suitably ridiculous of Moore-era Bond, Blofeld hijacks of a helicopter taxiing 007, before the super spy regains control and, in a move as sadistic as it is suave, throws the villain down a chimney. Played by John Hollis (who failed to capitalise on the early eighties fame of cyborg Lobot in Empire), this faceless bald guy who has a love of grey clothing and pets a white cat was never officially called Blofeld due to the ownership issues of Thunderball (the same ones that led to Never Say Never), but thats not really fooling anyone. The Bond series For Your Eyes Only came into was a world away from what Blofeld had originally starred in. His name may have been the same, but given how Blofeld was dead/non-existent in the current continuity, its a worthy addition.
