8 Cancelled Movies We Secretly Still Want To See

5. Ghostbusters III

The Unmade Movie: Ghostbusters III was on the cards ever since people forgot how naff Ghostbusters II was, but was dogged by endless false starts and a reluctant Bill Murray.

The idea probably changed a lot in the decades it was a possibility (and some likely were cribbed for the sequel video game), but the general idea discussed by Harold Ramis was a strong one – have the original cast training up a new age of ‘Busters, with a strong focus on moving forward rather than looking back.

Why It’s Such A Shame: Because the hatred for the straight reboot is so wearisome, it would have been nice to have a proper Ghostbusters III to shut them up; aside from the sexism and false protest, that we’re getting a recasted reboot over a straight sequel is a major cause for all that upset (it’s what Cinemassacre, the critic who refuses to see the film, cited as reasoning).

But beyond that there’s the feeling of lost potential in not seeing that gang back together. Of course, the fear of it not working was what put Murray off for so long, but given how this idea slots right into an era where nostalgic sequels are mega-bucks, this could have been Ghostbusters' The Force Awakens.
