8 Classic Movies That Introduced Me To 8 Classic Bands

1. The Wraith €“ Ozzy Osbourne

Part of me feels sorry for kids nowadays. I mean, not that I am condoning such parental behaviour but where as this generation of kids has Cars to fulfil the needs young padawans seemingly have with the automobile. My generation had The Wraith, an R-rated revenge flick which starred a very young Charlie Sheen, a very young & sexy Sherilyn Fenn, Ron Howards younger brother and a very un-crazy Randy Quaid. It tells the story of Jamie Hankins, brutally murdered by a gang of car racing 'pirates' (for lack of a better word) for simply starting a relationship with a girl that the leader, Packard Walsh has a serious obsession over. Given the chance to come back and take out his revenge on the gang by forces unknown, he returns as Jake Kesey, a super cool dirt bike ridin' teenager with a supernatural car as his weapon of choice, to take on this marauding band of car enthusiasts in violent & spectacular force. Basically, it's Death Proof with The Crow driving instead of Stuntman Mike. Not exactly stuff made for kids, as it had bad language, gratuitous violence and nudity. But we completely missed all of that, because we were too amazed at the cars being showcased on our small screens. The closest thing we ever got to an exotic car in the bush was a Ford Falcon, but these 'teenagers' were all driving what might as well have been UFO's to us. We only ever saw these types of cars when we went to the local shop and they had some hot wheels for sale, or a Cannonball Run movie was available for rent. To top it all was one of the greatest hard rock soundtracks for a movie ever. I remember the first time I saw this film - it opened with a scenario that has one of the antagonists scream, "you lose the race, you lose your car." Now that was just completely mind blowing for a kid of about 8-10 yrs of age who live in a town of only 200 people, but to add to that, they start playing the Ozzy Osbourne track Secret Loser as the soundtrack to this epic race for pink slips. I heard this song crank out over the opening race scene and was sold instantly. To this day, it is my favourite Ozzy Osbourne song and an unofficial anthem to my own life & experiences. So there you have it, 8 classic bands, 8 classic movies (depending on your interpretation). If you haven't seen any of these movies or heard any of these bands, I hope I may have convinced you to take some time out of the rat race, settle in for a day and catch up to what you may have missed. Because if these films can stop young impressionable kids stuck in the middle of the bush from running around barefoot in the outback, playing with dangerous animals and generally keeping their parents constantly on edge, then I am pretty sure they can keep you entertained for an hour and a half.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
