8 Critical Mistakes The DC Film Universe Has Made
1. Trying To Play Catch-Up
Batman v Superman, while highly anticipated by pretty much every living soul on the planet, was widely regarded as an odd second step for the DCEU - not the concept itself, but the fact that new, major characters kept getting added. And kept getting added. Etc.
And it quickly started to feel like Warner Bros. were just cramming the movie full to the brim, in an attempt to accomplish in one movie what Marvel did in several. Needless to say, this was a mistake, and the final product speaks for itself.
In one movie, the studio needed to introduce new iterations of Batman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, Alfred, and to a lesser extent, Cyborg, The Flash and Aquaman. They had to continue Superman's troubling tale from Man Of Steel. They had to plant the seeds that will eventually lead to Darkseid, and The Justice League. Oh, and they had to do the Batman v Superman bit.
The filmmakers bit off more than they could chew, but it wasn't because they felt that all this was right for the story - it was the 'cinematic universe effect' breathing down their necks, tempting them with a slice of that incredibly profitable pie. Batman v Superman wasn't a complete disaster - it made a lot of money and Batfleck was widely praised - but it was a risk, and it didn't pay off quite as well as we'd all hoped.
