One of the most famous well loved animated Disney classics is Cinderella, adapted for cinema in 1950 and live action in 2015. There are many different versions of the pauper turned princess story, dating back to as early as Ancient Greece sixth century BC in which a courtesan has one of her shoes stolen by an eagle.

In 1812, the Brothers Grimm adapted their own telling of the story. Much like the Disney classic, the girl is tortured to life as a slave within the house in which her step mother and sisters reside. She enters a ball in disguise and meets a prince, losing her glass slipper on the way out.

The prince searches the land for the woman who fits the shoe perfectly to be his bride. When he visits the house of Cinderella's family, the Grimm's version claims that the step sister cut off their toes and heels to fit in the shoes themselves.

When the prince sees blood and the birds sing around him that the sisters are faking, he realises their trickery, and then finds his true love, Cinderella. When the two are married, the sisters are attacked by Cinder's birds, who blind them.
