8 Developments That Will Change Streaming Forever

Disney already holds the all-time record for global box office, with $7.6B in revenue from motion pictures in 2015, and has pretty much dominated the ranking all decade with a collection of massive franchises and some of the most popular IP in existence. That's before it bought up most of 20th Century Fox late last year and came into possession of ginormous box office hits like Avatar and Titanic - and that’s quite literally the tip of the ice-berg.

Unlike Warners, Disney have already slated a raft of original content specifically designed for the streaming platform. This includes a $100m Star Wars series from Jon Favreau called The Mandelorian, and another spinoff based on the character Cassian Andor from Rogue One. They’ve even confirmed a Marvel TV series dedicated to Tom Hiddleston’s Loki to bring some A-list glamour to proceedings, with shows dedicated to The Winter Soldier and Falcon also in development.

Disney Chairman Bob Iger has called Disney+ the company’s “Biggest Priority” in 2019, which for a company whose total revenue amounted to $59.4B in 2018 should be fair warning to any pretenders to the throne out there. The ace in the hole will be the service's offing to children, as once you’ve signed up to Disney+ for the kids, will you really fork out for another subscription service on top?
