You might only know him from the pop-culture skewering Adam & Joe Show that was on Channel 4 in the '90s, but Joe Cornish has more than proven that he's got the drive and ability to handle a movie like Ghostbusters III, and it wouldn't be the first time his name had been attached to a threequel, as he was recently rumoured to be in talks to direct Star Trek 3. Though he's only got one directing credit under his belt, it's about as perfect a CV as you could ask for. 2010's Attack The Block was a sci-fi/horror/comedy about an alien invasion in a South London tower block and had just the right mix of laughs and frights to earn it comparisons with many similar genre-blending pictures from the 1980s, which shows that Cornish certainly would know his audience - being a member of it certainly helps. Though he's just signed on to direct the historical spy thriller Section 6, it'd be great to see another Joe Cornish-directed genre movie in the near future, as his reverence for older material is balanced with a keen genre-savvy and a great sense of comic timing that could work wonders if given a project like Ghostbusters III. If nothing else we'd probably get a couple of great gags involving possessed stuffed toys at least...
