8 Directors Who Hate Superhero Movies
3. Mel Gibson
He’s said some unfortunate things in the past, but Mel Gibson probably won some new fans in 2016 when he criticized the superhero genre, with Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice getting both barrels.
Promoting Hacksaw Ridge, Mel admitted that the success of superhero movies left him scratching his head.
“I’m really baffled by it. I think there’s a lot of waste but maybe if I did one of those things with the green screens I’d find out different. I don’t know. It seems to me you could do it for less. If you’re spending outrageous amounts of money, $180 million or more, I don’t know how you get it back after the taxman gets you and after you give half to the exhibitors.”
Delivering the coup de grace, he added: “How much did they spend on Batman V Superman that they’re admitting to? And it’s a piece of s**t.”
