8 Disappointing Endings To 8 Awesome Films

7. Sunshine

Danny Boyle€™s Sci-Fi movie Sunshine has divided critics since its release, some singing its praises, others left bored and disinterested by the whole affair. I imagine many who have seen the film however fall into a third category of viewer. They enjoyed it for the most part, namely while it was atmospheric , unsettling and full of an unmistakable creeping dread as the crew hurtled ever closer to the sun, but who were then disappointed with the film€™s out of place ending. After all the slowly building tension and questioning of the origins of the Universe and matters of God and atheism and so forth, it is slightly strange to then shift to the tried and tested horror movie cliché of numerous slasher movies and have a crazed mad man unrelentingly stalk our heroes. Suddenly it goes from existential Sci-Fi to I Know What You Did Last Summer. By throwing this curve ball in at the film€™s end, perhaps in an attempt to up the excitement quota as the movie neared its climax, the film loses a lot of its impact and all that good work Boyle did in the first three quarters of the movie feels a little bit wasted.
