3. Super Size Me Forced McDonald's To Provide Much Healthier Options
Regardless of veracity, it's fairly rare when a documentary manages to have a real, tangible effect on the world. Super Size Me is one of the few, directed by Morgan Spurlock. For the purpose of the documentary, Spurlock ate nothing but McDonalds for breakfast, lunch and dinner over the course of an entire month, always accepting the Super Size option if prompted. Throughout the documentary, Spurlock visits various doctors and physicians, experiencing extensive weight gain, low energy and an increased cholesterol. The release of the documentary took the world by storm, and prompted action from McDonalds itself. Which when you consider the sheer, unfathomable size of the fast-food chain is no mean feat. Despite claiming it was a total coincidence, McDonalds removed the Super Size option from their menus, and shortly before the film received wide release (it was first shown at Sundance) it began introducing its Go Active range. What this ultimately lead to was an increase in healthier options that still persists to this day, over ten years after the documentary was first released in 2004. Not only that, but the company became much more public about the nutritional information of its food. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izB6WohWJPY
