8 Exciting Upcoming Comic Book Movies You Need To Know About (That Aren’t Marvel Or DC)

6. Invincible

Invincible Comic
Image Comics

The Comic: Image Comics' Invincible was created by The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman, and follows young Mark Grayson, son of the superhero Omni-Man, who begins to develop powers of his own - super-strength, flight, healing - at the age of 17.

Since Mark is only a teenager, he has to go to school, then university, and go on dates, just like a normal kid. Invincible very much revolves around this struggle between Mark's normal human life, and his insanely powerful alter-ego.

The Movie: Universal hired Seth Rogen and his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg to write, direct and produce an Invincible adaptation in 2017, with the goal being to make the property as successful and famous as The Walking Dead.

Earlier this year, the pair told Mashable that "we can do anything we want" while making the movie, with Kirkman giving them his blessing to go all-out and make Invincible as irreverent and shocking as they like. Considering the great job Rogen and Goldberg did with adapting Preacher for television, giving them free reign can only be a good thing.

The property has also been set up as an adult animated series at Amazon, but as THR noted in their June 2018 report, Rogen's movie is still very much in development.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
