8 Filmmakers Who Were Pissed Off By Movie Critics

2. Alex Proyas Thinks That Film Critics Are Diseased Vultures

The disastrous Gods Of Egypt is about as irredeemable as movies get. Trope-ridden, poorly acted, boring, and with some terrible visual effects, it was a good thing that it released in February, because if it had come out in November or December? It would've ended the year on an awful note.

Needless to say, the critical reaction to the movie was a big thumbs-down, with only a handful of positive reviews to be found in a sea of negative ones. Rather than taking this in his stride though, director Alex Proyas instead took to Facebook, going on a big long rant against the critics and calling them - amongst other things - "a pack of diseased vultures":

"Now that anyone can post their opinion about anything from a movie to a pair of shoes to a hamburger, what value do they have - nothing. Now we have a pack of diseased vultures pecking at the bones of a dying carcass."

He also had some choice words for people who accused the film of white-washing its Egyptian characters, calling them "deranged idiots".

It really is hard to believe that a supposed industry professional took to social media and posted a big long rant like this, but hey, this is the world we live in, folks.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
