Release Date: 30th January The Talent: Paul Thomas Anderson (Director); Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Jena Malone The Story: Based upon the novel by Thomas Pynchon, Inherent Vice follows drug-fuelled Detective Larry 'Doc' Sportello's investigation into the disappearance of a former girlfriend in 1970's Los Angeles. Why You Should Be Excited: Paul Thomas Anderson is a true auteur, one of the few leftin the current Hollywood arena. The wunderkind director of There Will Be Blood and Magnolia always delivers thought-provoking, original and unique films that leave critics fawning in delight, so it will be surprising if Inherent Vice doesn't follow suit. It will be the first film ever produced based on the work of Thomas Pynchon, the notoriously reclusive novelist known for his dense and complex stories. The cast assembled by Anderson is a sight to behold. This will be his second collaboration with Joaquin Phoenix (after 2012's The Master), who will be teaming once again with his screen wife from the amazing Walk The Line (Reese Witherspoon). Add in Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro and it's obvious that, at the very least, the acting in the film will be of the very highest order. This has all the potential in the world to be a film that marries the critic pleasing intelligence of usual Anderson films with something more crowd-pleasing.
