2. Invasion Of The Body Snatchers

Soul-sucking aliens that change your loved ones into joyless drones? Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a classic alien invasion movie and a stark warning about political indoctrination at the same time.

Elizabeth's partner Geoffrey starts acting weird after she brings home a flower she's never seen before. Unfortunately for them both, the flower is actually an alien pod which replicates Geoffrey's body and destroys the human original, allowing a blank, emotionless copy to take his place in her life.

Soon she and her friend David realise that almost everybody in the city, including some of their closest friends, is being killed and replaced in this way. It's like a terrible conspiracy to initiate everyone into a weird, deadening cult, a cult complete with secret meetings and an evil, nefarious plan to take over the entire world.

The original movie is about McCarthyism, the right-wing movement that tried to eliminate American Communists in the Red Scare of the 1940s and 50s. This remake reverses the meaning, taking its strong, flexible central metaphor and developing it into a story about Communism itself.

American culture often portrays Communism as a brainless and murderous movement that deliberately annihilates all individuality.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers is as bold as it gets.

Hello everyone! I'm mad about horror, metal, kaiju, and other weird nonsense.
