4. Tired Of The "Idiots" Running Hollywood - Sean Connery
Few other actors need no introduction quite so much as Sean Connery. From his early years playing the legendary British secret agent James Bond - still widely considered to be the best actor to have played the role - he went on to start in numerous hits, including The Hunt For Red October and The Rock. But the increasingly bankable star, who could command upwards of £10 million by the time he appeared in his final movie, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, grew increasingly tired of what he perceived as "idiots" running Hollywood, and chose to retire for good at the age of 74. "I'm fed up with the idiots ... the ever-widening gap between people who know how to make movies and the people who green-light the movies," Connery said in an interview, hardly pulling his punches on the industry. Given the woeful performance of League... it's perhaps hardly surprising that he felt this way - Connery went on to turn down the role of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, a deal which could have earned him around £400 million. But these days, the aging star is happiest hanging out on the golf course.
