8 Greatest Movie Lies And Hoaxes Of All Time

3. Stanley Kubrick Faked The Moon Landings

This is basically a hoax within a hoax. That the Moon landing was faked is already a popular enough hoax/conspiracy theory (that seems unlikely to ever truly go away). Add to that the gleefully perpetuated idea that legendary film-maker Stanley Kubrick was involved and you're left with a truly remarkable hoax. So what ties Kubrick to the moon landing? Well, he directed 2001: A Space Odyssey, so that has to mean something. For a start, the film is partly set on the Moon, and it featured advanced, remarkable special effects. Plus, it was released a year before the moon landing, so Kubrick would have had time to prepare. The idea was spread by theorists who wanted to lend credibility to the idea that the entire thing was faked. By attaching a Hollywood film-maker to the theory, it gives the whole thing an inch more believability. It goes on to detail how NASA approached Kubrick specifically, as he was known for his immense talent and revolutionary effects. Oh, and supposedly he confessed to the whole thing in The Shining (I mean, have you seen the kid's Apollo 11 jumper? It's conclusive). This spawned another hoax in 2015, when a video surfaced that supposedly featured footage of Kubrick admitting that the whole thing was a lie, and confessing to his involvement. Of course, this hoax was soon exposed as just that....
