6. Star Trek 3 Will Explore Strange New Worlds And Seek Out New Life And New Civilizations (For Real This Time)
At the end of the first movie, it seemed as though the audience was meant to think it would be getting the five-year mission in the second movie. As it turned out, we didn't, but we were again promised this at the end of the second movie. Star Trek Into Darkness does have many interesting themes, but when you think about it, it really is very much a pause before the bigger and more hoped-for adventure. I will grant that it's much more difficult for the writers to write themselves out of the ending of Star Trek Into Darkness, but I will believe we'll be getting a story not about Earth-centric military strategy when I see it. The Star Trek franchise just doesn't seem interested in exploring the unknown anymore. It hasn't been for years. When's the last time we saw a space probe for an antagonist? Not even the absence of J.J. Abrams will change that fact. Speaking of which...
