8 Horror Films Ruined By Showing Too Much

5. Annabelle: Creation

Mama 2013 Mama
Warner Bros

Centred around a possessed doll, Annabelle: Creation serves as a prequel and origin story to 2014’s Annabelle, and for the most part, is an incredibly effective Hollywood horror.

Bringing about a mixture of film techniques so you’re never sure where the next scare is coming from, whether it be a classic jump or some freaky body-morphing horror, Creation completely blows its load with one scene that steps a little too far into the cold light of day.

Trapped in an old barn, the demon after fresh children souls is shown in its full glory as he shifts around the room, revealing a prosthetic mess painted jet black that functions better as a Halloween outfit than it does something truly horrifying.

Where we’ve previously seen a creeping presence that takes over its hosts and skulks in shadows, we instead get the full-blown gimp costume that then defiles any mysterious presence with actual effect. The film is still an enjoyable watch, and one with an unpredictability that is especially exciting, but loses its edge with one misplaced light bulb.
