The Childs Play movies had gone the route of self-parody, and by Seed of Chucky the series was all but demoted to being a bad comedy.

It then lay dormant for 9 years and everyone expected a remake to bring it back from the dead. Then, to everyone's surprise, a direct-to-DVD sequel was announced and the horror community at large groaned heavily.

Even the return of original director Don Mancini wasn't enough to squash the stigma, but when it was finally released fans breathed a sigh of relief as the killer doll had his best movie in decades.

The film brought a welcome return to the originals creepy atmosphere and follows Chucky's slow dismantling of a paraplegic woman's household. Gone are the days of seeing Chucky run around and quip one-liners, as he now reverted back to sitting ominously grinning while slowly setting up his plans from the shadows.

The film is a treat for fans and adds a ton of new lore about killer Charles Lee Ray with a story focused on his life before he became a doll that viewers had never gotten a glimpse of before. It also has a riveting ending that reignited all the love the series had lost over the years.

This was a satisfying return to glory from a horror icon whose films had been treated as a joke for years.
