8 Horror Movie Sequels Everyone Thought Would Suck But Didn't
4. Wrong Turn 2 (2007)
The first wrong turn was a solid, if completely unmemorable, horror flick from 2003 that didn't excite critics or horror fans too much upon release. When the sequel was released 4 years later, and with a 3rd of the budget, it was quickly seen as direct-to-DVD shlock.
Oh, how wrong people were as Wrong Turn 2 turned out to be vastly superior to the original, adding some much-needed personality into the series and giving fans a new horror icon in the form of Three Finger to root for.
In a rather unique setting, it follows a survivalist reality TV show set in the forest where everyone's favorite cliched movie characters are starring. There's the classic bimbo, goth and of course, the jock, with the cast clearly have a lot of fun hamming it up in these roles.
Henry Rollins is an absolute hoot too as an over the top badass colonel who you'd happily see have his own movie. Then the mutant cannibals arrive and what follows is 90 minutes of crazy hillbilly antics as the characters do battle with the villains in a gore-soaked showdown.
There's a ton of impressive practical effects, as people's intestines are thrown around and limbs fly in all directions. It's a film definitely not for the squeamish.
Wrong Turn 2 is a fast-paced fun ride and when compared to the drab 1st film, it was one hell of an upgrade no one saw coming.
