8 Iconic Movie Moments You Didn't Realise Were Taken From Other Films
3. Trainspotting's Club Scene Draws Impactful Parallels With A Clockwork Orange
The Iconic Moment: Before we begin, first an important message - Danny Boyle, DO NOT F*CK UP TRAINSPOTTING 2. It's a visceral masterpiece and, while there is scope for another adventure with Renton and the gang (Irvine Welsh wrote a sequel novel, Porno, back in 2002), it's not something you want to tamper with lightly. Seriously, Trainspotting is one of the best British films ever, blending horror and sadness with some pitch black comedy. One of the funny scenes that doesn't require a seriously dark sense of humour to enjoy comes early on when Spud and Tommy discuss their love life. The Film It's Taken From: The opening of the conversation, with a slow zoom in on the protagonists sat against a wall, is a pretty strong mirror of the opening of A Clockwork Orange, a film that Boyle's repeated pointed out had a major influence on him as a director. What really tips this over the edge though is the font use - the text on the back wall of boths shots uses the same bubble letters, and even say similar things. This isn't just a shout-out from a modern great to one of his idols though; in a move similar to The Usual Suspects/Nightcrawler twisting, Boyle is contrasting the reality of youth with the delinquency shown in Kubrick's sci-fi. I'm gonna say it again, don't f*ck up the sequel.
