http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTIAvx4Xhzw McGonagall has been my favorite of the teachers since the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I was thrilled to hear that Maggie Smith, the Mother Superior from Sister Act, would be bringing her to life. Somewhat selfishly, when I heard that Maggie Smith had cancer, I first worried that she wouldn't be able to finish the series. But here we are. Six movies in, McGonagall is still the well-meaning scourge of Gryffindor House. She gives detention to her own students, assigns them extra homework, and is suspicious if they don't look stressed enough. Evidence this adapted scene. In the book, each of the sixth-year students has a conference with their Head of House to determine if they have the right course load based on their grades. In this, Ron and Harry are finally having a free period instead of rushing off to the library or finding their way to the North Tower for Divination. So what does McGonagall do? Well, first, she makes sure Harry's on the right path. But then she admonishes him, "Potter, take Weasley with you. He looks far too happy over there." It is perfectly in character for McGonagall. It is especially amusing given that she's had so much experience with what Ron's brothers do in their spare time.
