8 Inherently Annoying Movies That Everyone You Know Seems To Love
5. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
This list just struck a nerve, right? Ferris Bueller's Day Off is often thought to the most definitively awesome movie ever made - a John Hughes masterpiece that you have no choice but to love, for fear of social rejection on a massive scale. And whilst the film is pretty enjoyable for the most part, it's also an insanely smug flick with an incredibly smug protagonist at its core. That's to say, Ferris Bueller is a bit of a d*ck, and either you overlook his very obvious character flaws as he takes the titular day off school, or you spend 90 minutes wondering how such an unlikeable twerp got such a famous movie named after him. Did Ferris really need to cause such a commotion? Why is he so popular? How the hell did he get a girlfriend as amazingly beautiful as the one played by Mia Sara in this movie? Just three of the many complex questions that might occur to you as you contemplate the purpose of Ferris Bueller and his infamous day off. Are people seriously saying that the scene in which Matthew Broderick boards a float and sings "Twist and Shout" isn't inherently annoying? Can they truly forgive the moment in which he ruins his best friend's life? Ferris Bueller is the exact opposite of what it means to be an empathetic character; he's just a plainly annoying one. And so is this film.
