2. An Entire Freeway Was Built For The Matrix Reloaded
One of the only good things about The Matrix Reloaded is the chase/fight on the freeway near the middle of the film. It's absolutely ludicrous, but it captures the frantic, over-the-top energy of the first movie (it's just a shame about everything else). Amazingly, an entire one and a half mile freeway was created specifically for this scene. If you're wondering where a film crew might get that amount of open space, the freeway was constructed at a decommissioned naval base in Alameda, California. Around sixty days were spent filming in the Alameda area, forty-eight of which were dedicated to shooting the freeway chase. Not only that, but the vehicles were also real (and repeatedly really destroyed). Many of these were donated by General Motors, so there was no qualm over totalling them for the sake of realism. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG-45RHWlU0
