8 Legendary Films That Were Rediscovered Years After They Were Lost

8. Event Horizon

Event Horizon15 Screenwriter Philip Eisner pitched his idea for Event Horizon as "the Shining in space" and director Paul W.S. Anderson brought it to life as a harrowing gorefest that ultimately flopped at the box office. Critics denounced the films over-reliance on gore and the film received mostly negative reviews. However, once Event Horizon found its way to home video, it developed a cult following. Fans of the 95 minute film may be surprised to learn that Anderson's original cut ran 130 minutes. This original cut fared poorly with test audiences because, amazingly, it was even more graphic and gore-laden than the cut that debuted in theatres. Paramount, the production company behind Event Horizon, demanded that Anderson turn in a less unnerving version of the feature. Copies of the deleted footage still existed on video but Paramount deemed the quality too poor to release to the public and Anderson's original cut of the film disappeared over time. It seemed that fans of Event Horizon would never get a chance to see Anderson's true vision in its entirety; that is until Anderson announced at Comic-Con 2012 that the original cut of Event Horizon, including the deleted footage, had been found on VHS tape. Hopefully, a release of the original cut is in the works.
