8 Lessons The Bond 24 Villain Must Learn So He Doesn't Fail Miserably

5. Keep The Evil Plan Realistic

Bond villains take to unachievable world domination fantasies like it's going out of style. Bond baddies such as You Only Live Twice's Blofeld (who tried to start war between the US and Soviet Russia by stealing their spaceships mid-flight) and Elliot Carver (a media magnate who planned to start WWIII for the sake of good journalism) don't seem to realise that keeping the flamboyancy to a minimum is likely to garner LESS attention - a simpler evil plan, more often than not, will get them what they want. When the world is at stake, Bond is much more likely to be successful, according to the statistics. He has failed to protect a countless number of the women in his life, but James Bond has never, EVER allowed the world to end on his watch. Something about the scenario just provokes the winner in him. But, Bond or no, if you're looking to take over the planet by nefarious means, you're likely to be instantly in for a hard time, regardless of your preparedness: Goldfinger is going to take the world to ransom using the Fort Knox reserves and a giant space laser? Even if Bond hadn't gone on to ruin everything, what was going to happen when the laser satellite needed refuelling, or when the world's military forces joined to annihilate Goldfinger's relatively puny army? Keep it simple and, if you're going to go through with some mad scheme, at least make it quick €“ that way, chances are Bond will still be gallivanting around the globe looking for clues and trying to bed anything that moves while you're counting your money or gazing over your newfound empire.
