8 Little Known Sacrifices Christian Bale Made To Make Nolan’s Batman Awesome

2. Method-Style Pushes His Acting To Crazy Levels

Warner Bros. Pictures

Christian Bale makes other self-pronounced method actors look like they quickly snap into character. Aside from the aforementioned body issues, he takes seemingly simple characters (while not directly relatable, we can easily empathise with Bruce Wayne and the loss of his parents) and treats them with reverence.

Of course, some things come across as silly anecdotes, like his trailer being under Bruce Wayne'€™s name, but looking at the production of the trilogy there's a real sense he was going all out. Aside from some of the other elements already looked at on this list, the case that stands out is a moment you'd think wouldn't require much (things are never simple).

For the scene where Bruce wakes up following exposure to the fear toxin, Bale actually fell asleep on the set to recreate the character€™s grogginess, much to Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman€™s confusion. It€™'s reminiscent of Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man (an urban myth states the former stayed up all night so his exhaustion in a scene would look authentic, to which Olivier quipped €œhave you ever tried acting, dear boy?€), made all the crazier by this being Bale'€™s first scene with the two actors.
