8 Little Known Sacrifices Christian Bale Made To Make Nolan’s Batman Awesome
1. He Turned Down Batman Vs. Superman
Ben Affleck's experienced Batman may have attempted to recapture The Dark Knight Rises' essence, but it's safe to say Batman V Superman put a cap on Nolans world.
That wasn't necessarily always meant to be the case, with Bale reportedly approached to return to Gotham. Only a year after he delivered full closure to Bruce Wayne, it's not surprising the actor turned down the role. Although allegedly offered $50 million to wear the cape and cowl again (even if the validity of those sources are sketchy), surely that makes this decision the biggest sacrifice the actor made for Nolan's Batman's integrity?
The Dark Knight Trilogy repurposed the ongoing comic book story as an epic tale with a defined beginning, middle and end, giving what will prove to be the definitive screen version of the character. Pitting this world's Bruce Wayne against Superman would not only ruin the realism of the series, but negate the sense of closure we get from The Dark Knight Rises. It may mean there's no chance of seeing Joseph Gordon Levitts take on the character, but Bale undoubtedly made the right decision.
