8 Little Known Tics That Made Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man Perfect

3. He Controls Posture & Position

In the first Iron Man, when Tony returns from his period of captivity and calls a press conference, one of the first things he does upon entering is slump down in front of the lectern and tell the hundreds of assembled reporters to sit down rather than stand up. This was actually an affectation that Downey came up with himself, as he felt that it was both more comfortable and realistic. This serves a few functions: it makes the whole scenario a little funnier (because could you imagine any other billionaire doing this?), and subtly demonstrates how easily Stark can command a room despite his totally casual tone. It's a scene that all at once exemplifies Stark's ability to lead and the fact that he's not your typical businessman or superhero: Downey gets to says a lot about the character without actually doing very much in this moment.
