8 Major New Details Revealed About Star Wars: The Force Awakens

7. The Resistance

A lot can change in 30 years, and that's very much the case in a Galaxy Far, Far Away when Star Wars: The Force Awakens begins. The main villains this time around will be the First Order, a powerful group led by General Hux, "a cruel leader of The First Order who craves to show the galaxy his might." They're described as a remnant of the Empire, and it seems like only a remnant of the Rebellion remains too as they're now a splinter group known as the Resistance. While the Rebels scored a major victory when they destroyed the second Death Star and both the Emperor and Darth Vader were killed, it makes sense that what remained of the Empire would come together and stop them from taking over. In fact, based on comments from Abrams, the war continued to rage long after that bonfire on Endor. "Any good story has conflict. And if all were rosy 30-some years post-Jedi, we would be hard-pressed to find an interesting story to tell." All the signs point to Princess Leia being in charge of the Resistance, and while the magazine doesn't confirm that, they do reveal that the lightsaber she's handed in the trailer is indeed the same one which once belonged to her father and was later lost by Luke when he battled Darth Vader in Cloud City.
