Batman V Superman: 8 Major Reveals From The New Images
5. The All-New Alfred Pennyworth
The most notable big screen Alfreds were played by Michael Caine and Michael Gough, but it sounds like Jeremy Irons' take will be a lot different to both of those. In fact, in what may be an indication that comic book scribe and DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns is very hands on with these movies, it seems as if the version we're getting in Batman v Superman is very close to the one from the Batman: Earth One graphic novels. Snyder confirms that this Alfred has a special-ops background and that while he's a butler "when required", he'll actually be a lot more "hands-on" in this movie. Affleck meanwhile points to Alfred being a source of humour in what so far looks to be a very dark and brooding affair. "There is a lot of wit. Batman is such a serious guy, Bruce Wayne is such a serious guy; it's nice to have a foil. Because we are going for this more realistic tone, we have to avoid being glib, but that wry British sense of humour is in a lot of ways about taking the piss," he explains. Fear not though as despite these changes, Irons makes it clear that Alfred is still very much a surrogate father to Bruce and extremely protective of him. The magazine meanwhile confirms that with Wayne Manor now a burned out husk, he'll be looking after Master Bruce in a "sleek lakeside residence."
