3. The Bridge Of Intermissions (Monty Python And The Holy Grail)

Intermissions are something we don't usually see these days. The shift from film reels to digital files means that, obviously, there no longer needs to be a break in order to swap those reels, and hell, it's rare that a movie is even long enough to warrant an intermission in the first place.

With its brief 92-minute runtime, 1975's Monty Python And The Holy Grail easily falls into that category, but hilariously, that didn't stop the filmmakers from putting one in anyway.

Towards the end of the uproarious comedy classic, King Arthur and Sir Bedevere must cross the fearsome Bridge Of Death in order to continue their quest, and just as they're approaching the middle of the structure... up pops the word "Intermission", complete with a colourful background, and some upbeat organ music.

A short while later, the action resumes, and the two characters successfully reach the other side of the bridge in one piece.

Like many things in Monty Python And The Holy Grail, this is another of those funny, random gags that happens for no real reason, and we can only imagine the simultaneous confusion/amusement experienced by cinema-going crowds back in 1975.
