8 More Myths About Classic Movies You'll Be Shocked To Hear Are False

2. Gladiator

GladiatorThe Myth: Enya sings over the closing credits of Gladiator. There€™s no better way to introduce this myth than by taking you to a good old Google search. If you Google 'Gladiator Enya', you€™re greeted with numerous YouTube videos, lyrics and mp3 downloads, all for the end credits of Ridley Scott€™s Oscar winner. With such irrefutable evidence, it must have been new age singer Enya that sung Gladiator€™s Now We Are Free. The Shocking Truth: She has nothing to do with it. There€™s been plenty of cases of misattribution of songs, which has only been fuelled by the Internet and in particular YouTube (just look at people think Don€™t Worry, Be Happy is by Bob Marley). Now We Are Free is sung by Lisa Gerrard and written by her and Hans Zimmer. Enya's erroneous credit likely comes from her being the more notable singer and thus more likely of such a major film. It€™s always sad to see a piece of art attributed to the wrong person and it€™s particularly strong here; the deserving Gerrard has fewer results in common with Gladiator than Enya.
