8 Movie Characters Who Were Killed Because Of Test Audiences

4. Robert Neville - I Am Legend

Those who'd read the novel upon which 2007's I Am Legend was adapted from before entering the theatre were likely left scratching their heads in the film's closing stages.

That's because in the aforementioned Richard Matheson book, Robert Neville comes to the realisation that he himself is the monster in the eyes of the infected mutants he's been fending off for years and eventually experimenting on. The film originally ran with this conclusion, depicting the alpha Darkseeker recovering his mate from Neville's clutches as the doctor realises what he has become in their eyes, but test audiences rejected the idea of Neville being painted as the villain from the Darkseeker's point of view.

So, instead of this thoughtful finale, the decision was made to have the alpha Darkseeker violently charge at Neville as the latter sacrificed himself with a grenade to ensure the cured blood of the female alpha could be preserved with Anna.

It definitely made for a more action-packed finish to the film, but many still understandably argue that the lazier ending was released into theatres around the world.
