8 Movie Scenes You Didn't See (Thanks To Test Audiences)
5. The Cauldron Born - The Black Cauldron
Potentially Disney's darkest release, the 80's animation The Black Cauldron is all your classic fantasy dreams bought to life, with everything from magical princesses to a prescient pig. Yes, you read that right, and it brings a whole new meaning to Babes Gone Wild.
In true Lord of the Rings style, the narrative sees a young boy, Taran, face up against the ultimate evil, The Horned King, in a bid to try and stop him from obtaining a magical cauldron that will allow him to take over the world with an undead army of spooky skeletons. Obviously, it isn't the usual Disney fare - following the trend for unsettling animation that seemed to take a hold of the 70s and 80s that made it the first film to earn the studio a PG rating.
The first test screenings saw crying children galore, fleeing from the cinema after being terrified by the creation of undead monsters through the titular Black Cauldron; of which a fractional amount of footage remains in the final cut. Turns out kids don't really like seeing people melted down in their cartoons.
A commercial failure and one of the most expensive animations Disney had done, it's no wonder nothing else similar was attempted after release - even though the film has gained cult status over the years it's been in circulation.
