8 Movie Sequels That Ruined A Perfect Franchise Ending
7. Jaws 2
Steven Spielberg's Jaws is a pitch-perfect film with the most satisfying ending one can possibly imagine; the shark gets blown up as the ever-down-on-his-luck Chief Brody utters the immortal line, "Smile, you son of a b*tch!"
As the final frames roll and Brody and Hooper merrily swim off into the distance, all of the character arcs have been brought to a beautiful resolution and the shark itself has been blown to utter pieces. The end, right? Well, not according to Jaws 2.
Jaws 2 takes all those articulate character arcs and themes and chucks them out the window, instead just opting for a quick and easy cash-in that has way more in-common with latter-day slasher sequels than it does with the original Jaws. This time, a new shark is in the area and Chief Brody has to once again try to save the town and kill the monster.
The problem is that the film never bothers to add anything to him as a character or even particularly subject him to any real trials or tribulations. He trudges through the duty of killing *yet another* shark with all the gusto of a janitor having to re-clean the restrooms for the second time in an hour.
Its a fatty slug of a film that does nothing but ruin the perfect ending of the original film.
