8 Movie Sequels That Ruined A Perfect Franchise Ending

1. Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines

Say what you will about James Cameron but cinema history is positively riddled with examples of directors attempting to follow in his footsteps and falling unfathomably short. Just take a look at the Terminator franchise, which has now spent *two decades* attempting to deliver an even vaguely okay installment without Cameron's involvement and has fallen short every single time.

The first of these attempts remains the worst though, simply by virtue of being the one to undo the perfect finality of Terminator 2: Judgement Day. That's right, it's all your fault, Terminator 3.

Judgement Day ends with Arnold's beloved T-800 sacrificing himself to ensure that every last piece of Cyberdine technology is destroyed, permanently preventing Judgement Day and saving the entirety of the human race in the process. It is the most perfect ending one could possibly imagine for both Schwarzengger's character and Cameron's franchise.

Then came Terminator 3, which all of a sudden decided that whoopsie, they hadn't stopped anything, they had only delayed it and suddenly everything they had gone through was for naught simply because franchises gonna franchise.
