5. Gene Kelly Made Debbie Reynolds' Feet Bleed

Singin' In The Rain is one of cinema's most beloved musicals, and justly so: it's a masterwork of craftsmanship in terms of both performance and technical achievement, but that kind of success rarely comes without a price. Not only did actor Donald O'Connor have to be admitted to hospital after shooting the "Make 'Em Laugh" sequence, but Debbie Reynolds literally danced until her feet bled performing "Good Morning." He upset her to such a harsh degree, in fact, that Fred Astaire once found her hiding under a piano, crying. He offered to help her learn the dance routines, which may well have saved her from Kelly's wrath. The director and performer later apologised to Reynolds about the way he had treated her, acknowledging that he'd been a terror, so hopefully the psychological damage he'd committed to his co-star was undone. It's unclear if her feet were ever the same again, though...
