8 Movie Set Tantrums That Put People's Lives In Danger
2. Faye Dunaway Threw P*** In Polanski's Face During Chinatown
Polanski is perhaps most famous for something other than his unsettling, dark-humoured films these days. The 32-year-old underage sex charges brought against him during post-production on The Ghost stirred up quite a bit of controversy, which the Polish-born director has certainly been no stranger to over the years. The son of concentration camp survivors, Polanski started off making films in Poland before the bauble of Hollywood drew him in and he began making English-language films to great success. One of his best, Chinatown, came shortly after his wife was murdered by followers of Charles Manson when they invaded their home. As you can imagine, all of this trauma didn't do the director much for his people skills, which is perhaps why his relationship with star Faye Dunaway on the set of Chinatown was so fraught. Refusing to let her use the bathroom during the shooting of a scene, she later approached Polanski with a cup of liquid and threw it in his face. It turned out to be her own urine. Despite the battle of wills between the two, the film went on to be a success and both of their careers continued, although Dunaway soon developed a reputation for being a difficult performer.
