8 Movie Villains Who Were Probably Right All Along

8. Clover - Cloverfield (2008)

url Being any kind of giant, terrifying monster is a pretty tough gig - first of all, you're so much bigger than anybody else inhabiting the planet. That, coupled with the fact that you're likely to be the last living member of your species, and that people instantly want to either kill or run away from you on sight, would be enough to upset even the most stoic of beasts. Consider the plight of Clover, then, the raging, shambling creature that terrorises New York City in J.J. Abrams' Cloverfield, who is - according to material discussed outside of the movie - awoken after thousands and thousands of years of sleep (beneath the ocean, mind), only to find that the world has changed in scary, unimaginable ways. Hell, Clover probably thought that the Statue of Liberty was a genuine threat - a monster of sorts - so no wonder it was the first thing to go. Ultimately, though, Clover was here first, and it was our own doing (a satellite fell from the sky into the ocean and woke the poor guy up) that brought him out from the abyss, anyway. He was even designed to be the "baby version" of whatever species he is, and to have a permanent look in his eyes resembling that of a "spooked horse," both of which only increase the likelihood that he was just frightened all along, and that we should've been less "let's kill this freakin' thing!" and more "hey, buddy, you wanna hug?"
